About
In 1996, Steve and Connie Carpenter began a pumpkin farm called Jack-O-Lantern Farms. Two years later, when they grew the three largest pumpkins in Alabama, they decided to expand their farm by raising other vegetables. In 2003, in their small greenhouse at their home, the Carpenters began growing tomatoes and cucumbers hydroponically. A year later, they were able to lease their present location on Garage Road and build their first lettuce beds with around 200 heads. Today, Jack-O-Lantern Farms has expanded to over 3,000 plant spaces and has begun growing herbs and other greens. To ensure a safer crop, no pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic nutrients are used in the field or greenhouse.
