The Heart of the city Farmers Market began June 14, 1981. On opening day fourteen farmers sold at the market. The market has grown to an average of over 65 farmers and more than 8000 consumers on a sunny day, with gross sales over 90,000.Heart of the City Farmers’ Market was created to bring high-quality, fresh, and reasonably-priced food from local farms to the heart of San Francisco, as well as to provide a direct marketing outlet for California’s smaller scale growers. We help provide San Francisco’s urban communities in the Civic Center, Tenderloin, South of Market, and surrounding neighborhoods with fresh, locally-grown produce, help support local and sustainable farming, and help enable San Francisco to eat healthy .
