The Heart of the city Farmers Market began June 14, 1981. On opening day fourteen farmers sold at the market. The market has grown to an average of over 65 farmers and more than 8000 consumers on a sunny day, with gross sales over 90,000.Heart of the City Farmers’ Market was created to bring high-quality, fresh, and reasonably-priced food from local farms to the heart of San Francisco, as well as to provide a direct marketing outlet for California’s smaller scale growers.
