The Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market has been a locus of vibrant life in downtown Bloomington for over 33 years. Fresh peaches, corn, watermelon, tomatoes, and squash are among the seasonal items the market currently offers its customers. You’ll find an amazing variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, bedding plants, flowers, and prepared foods, including those offered in the sunflower-covered van by Bloomingfoods.
On August 18, 2007, the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market became the first farmers’ market in the state of Indiana to accept food stamp benefits. The Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market is now piloting a program that upon its success will allow other farmers’ markets across the state to accept food stamp benefits.
Our local market was already participating in WIC and senior farmers’ market nutrition programs, providing low income seniors and individuals receiving WIC benefits the opportunity to purchase local fresh produce. With the addition of food stamp benefits, the market will become even more open and inviting to all members of the community
The Bloomington Community Farmers' Market is located at 401 N. Morton St. in Bloomington, in the area next to City Hall known as "Showers Common." Beautiful displays of Indiana-grown produce transform the Common into a canvas painted with the brilliant hues of nature's bounty. Shoppers enjoy buying from the farmers' and backyard gardeners who grow the produce they sell and who ofter share their favorite recipe for preparing it.
